Dr. Alexandra McLaughry
Dr. Alexandra joined the BarburVet family in August 2012 as lead veterinarian. She purchased the practice in May 2014. She completed her undergraduate degree at University of Oregon and her veterinary degree at University College Dublin, in Ireland. Since graduating in 2003, she has treated many species of animals, from horses, llamas, and cows to birds, turtles, lizards as well as dogs and cats. She is happy to treat birds, pocket pets, reptiles and other exotics as well as dogs and cats. She enjoys educating clients about their critters! She enjoys dentistry and dermatology as well as addressing such common issues as osteoarthritis in the aging pet.
When she is not having fun at work she is riding her bike home to be with her daughters, Fiona and Athena, and husband Stephen. Her furry family members are Gunnar (dachshund cross adopted from OHS), Lily a young Pyrenees mix as well as Beatrice and Bernice both long haired orange and white former barn cats. She also has a rescue bunny named Robin.

April is a Los Angeles native and is fairly new to Portland, she and her family have been taking in all the beauty that Oregon has to offer. April has been an animal lover all of her life and is happy to be able to work with so many furry friends. She has two kitties, Teeg & Church and a dog named Rosie. On the weekends April enjoys visiting antique shops, cooking with her daughters and spending time with her family. April is very happy to be a part of the BarburVet Team serving our wonderful clients and patients.
Veterinary Assistant/Kennel Technician
She is a student at Portland State University. She has a Bachelor of Science degree and is very passionate about veterinary medicine. She hopes someday to go to vet school and become a veterinarian. She has 2 pugs, 1 chihuahua, 2 cats and a turtle. She has a special love for exotic animals and even loves bugs.
Alejandra Joined BarburVet Family in January 2023. She received her Veterinary Degree (Doctor in Veterinary Medicine) in 2016 from the University of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. She also received B.A. in Marketing in 2012 from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education, Mexico. She is currently in the process of pursuing her ECFVG to become a certified Veterinary practitioner in the US and prospects to focus on wildlife medicine. Alejandra has experience practicing as a Veterinary Doctor back in Mexico at her family’s vet clinic before moving to the USA. Alejandra is a mother of 11 (4 dogs, 4 cats, 2 rats and 1 parrot). She loves to sing and dance when the time, place, and event permit.
Ashley has lived and worked in the Tigard area for years. Her first job out of high school was a veterinary clinic, but after that, she bounced around trying out a lot of different career ideas – everything from managing a hotel, to selling cars! Eventually, she realized that she was meant to be in animal medicine all along, and she never looked back. She loves to spend her free time soaking up Oregon’s natural beauty on long hikes with her boyfriend, playing video games on her PS4, or cuddling up with her Siamese cat named Honker.”
